A very good report on crowdsourced transcription tools from my friend Ben Brumfield. Although written specifically for a transcription project for the Wellcome Library (focusing on culinary and medicinal recipes, which sounds like a cool project in itself), it provides good general information about available tools, user requirements, and risk analysis for this type of project, which should be useful for similar projects under consideration by other institutions.
